Anchorage, Alaska - The Alaska Department of Health and Social Services Division of Public Health will conduct its 2004 Alaska Public Health Training Institute on September 28-30 at the BP Energy Center at 900 E. Benson Blvd in Anchorage. The Institute is held in partnership with the Alaska Public Health Association and the Northwest Center for Public Health Practice.

Participants can choose one of the following three courses for the three-day session: Preparing For Public Health Emergencies Through Tabletop Exercises; Alaska Public Health Policy and Law; and Strategies For Successful Program Planning, Evaluation and Survey Design. Courses will be taught by experts from the State of Alaska and the University of Washington.

“This year’s Public Health Training Institute offers courses for more than just state Public Health staff; everyone connected to public health in Alaska can learn something new here to improve or expand their skills and abilities,” said Division of Public Health Director Richard Mandsager, M.D.

Participants at the 2003 Institute reported very positive learning experiences from the courses. In a survey conducted three months after the 2003 courses, one participant responded, “This was the best training I’ve had in a long, long time.” Another respondent stated, “I came away with some ideas for cooperative work with the public and private sector.” “I've attended the Public Health Institute for the past two years and appreciate the quality and professionalism of the trainings. I hope I will be able to attend these trainings in the future. Thank You,” says a third.

Registration fee is $125 plus $15 for each certification requested. No on site registration will be offered.
