Alaska Baptist Family Services – Specialized Treatment, Anchorage
ABFS serves by maintaining twelve beds for SED adolescent boys who need residential care with 24-hour behavior rehabilitation services. ABFS operates within a continuum of care for children who need mental health services in the State of Alaska. This continuum of care is made up of for-profit and not-for-profit agencies in a combination of community based, residential, and hospital based environments of care. ABFS’ behavior modification treatment program helps youth who are identified with psychosocial, emotional, and behavioral dysfunctions.
Aspects of this treatment program include, but are not limited to:
- Functional assessments of children to establish an individualized service plan
- Therapeutic services by a qualified mental health professional
- Case management to assist the client in linking needed resources
- Skill development to build the life and social skills needed to integrate into the community
The current client population ranges in age from 11-18 years old males who typically require medium to long-term treatment, are able to cognitively respond to treatment, can participate in community schools, and cannot be served in a less restrictive setting. Our students often exhibit criminal behaviors, experience difficulties in school, and lack the needed life skills to maintain in their homes and communities. Upon successful discharge, our students have experienced the skills needed to enable them to live successfully in the community. The goal of ABFS is to help prepare clients to return home, succeed in foster care, or to live independently.
