Join us for a historic moment to see twelve (12) of the most renowned and revolutionary leaders in the field of developmental disabilities present on "Navigating the Future in Turbulent Times." Starting September 29, 2010 at 1 pm (Central Time) and for the following twelve Wednesdays, you will be able to see, from your computer desktop, each key leader present live via a video web conference platform.
Why should You Attend? Are you worried about how to respond to the rapidly changing environment? The recession? Cutbacks in funding? This is a once in a lifetime series of events where you will be able to see and interact with some of the most insightful and significant leaders of our time. You will hear each revolutionary leader reflect on what we can do now to better navigate the future in these difficult and turbulent times and to see possibilities in the face of turmoil.
What does it cost? An anonymous supporter has made a contribution to enable as many people as possible to participate. The first 35 people who register for each session will only have to pay $15/session. After that, the price will revert to the original $25. The series price is also reduced.

9/29/2010 (Nancy R. Weiss) The Future of Supports for People with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities: Moving Beyond Some of the Things We Do with the Best Intentions. Nancy Weiss is the Director of the National Leadership Consortium on Developmental Disabilities. She is an extraordinary community network builder, founder of the Reinventing Quality Conference and former executive director of TASH.
10/6/10 (Steve Eidelman) Three decades of working in the trenches.from deinstitutionalization to self-advocacy and community membership. Steve Eidelman is a Professor at the University of Delaware. He has been a public policy trailblazer working in government, advocacy organizations, and currently in the university.
10/13/10 (John O'Brien) Reweaving the Social Fabric. John is an internationally known trainer supporting person centered planning. He is one of the key developers of the PATH planning tool.
10/20/10 (Judith Gran) Promises to Keep in Education: the importance of inclusion to a quality education. Judy is a renowned public interest lawyer famous for winning constitutional court cases securing the right to inclusive education for students with disabilities.
10/27/10 (Michael Callahan) Discovery as the Foundation of Employment Planning: Charting the Course to Employment. Mike is the Executive Director of MGA Associates. He is the foremost proponent of the idea that every person with a disability can work no matter how disabled.
11/3/2010 (David Wetherow) The Star Raft: Building Committed, Connected and Enduring Circles of Support. David is the founder and developer of human service cooperatives and Microboards in the US and Canada. He created the Star Raft pattern and has been involved in helping families, agencies and communites put the pattern into action.
11/10/10 (Nancy Ward) The Medicaid Reference Desk: An accessible web site with a person centered planning tool developed by self-advocates. Nancy is the founder of the self-advocacy movement in the United States and the founder of the national self-advocacy association, Self-Advocates Becoming Empowered.
11/17/10 (Michael Smull) Person Centered Organizations and the Challenge of Scale. Michael is the co-developer of essential lifestyle planning and has worked in 47 states, Canada, the UK, Australia, and Belgium.
12/1/2010 (Clarence J. Sundram, JD) International Human Rights Law and Disability. Clarence Sundram is a world renowned lawyer whose work has exposed and improved conditions of people with disabilities living in some of the most deprived conditions imaginable in impoverished countries around the world.
12/8/2010 (Beth Mount) The Imaginative Journey: Exploring the heart of activism and innovation. Beth is the creator of Personal Futures Planning which promotes the positive futures and images of people with disabilities throughout the world.
1/5/2010 (Tom Nerney) 21st Century Self-Determination. Learn from the God father of the self-determination movement. Tom is the founder of self-determination and the Executive Director of the Center for Self-Determination.
1/12/2010 (Nancy Thaler) State of the States. Nancy is the Executive Director of the National Association of State Directors of Developmental Disabilities Services. Nancy recently presented testimony to the US Congress about future disability public policy. Hear her perspective on the four themes that have shaped the past development of services and how current environmental trends will shape our future choices.
How will I be able to participate with these 12 historic leaders? You will be able to see and hear each of the speakers live on screen. You will have the opportunity to ask the presenters questions through texting and have your questions answered directly in real time as you participate in the session.
What will you need to participate in the video web conference? An Internet connection and speakers.
Why are these leaders so revolutionary? The leadership of these individuals served to move our country away from a time where social exclusion, isolation, and segregation were the predominant experiences of individuals with disabilities. Their thoughtful reflection, mentoring, advocacy, and examples made it possible for a new generation of people with disabilities to have broad and relevant roles in our culture and communities.
All of the Revolutionary Leaders have donated their time as presenters. All proceeds will go the Tennessee Microboards Association, a nonprofit organization supporting the development of Microboards in Tennessee and in seven states across the US.
