Limits proposed for restraint, seclusion of students with disabilities
Two congressional lawmakers unveiled a bill seeking to impose strict limitations on practices of restraint and seclusion. The Preventing Harmful Restraint and Seclusion in Schools Act would allow such practices only in crisis situations where a student or others are in immediate physical danger. While some advocates say the proposed law does not go far enough to limit the practices, some educators say restraints or seclusion are sometimes needed to keep students and teachers safe.
