2003 FAS Knowledge, Attitudes, Beliefs and Behaviors Survey (KABB)

KABB Survey Results

KABB Tools For:

The Department of Health & Social Services Office of FAS has completed the data collection for the 2003 FAS Knowledge, Attitudes, Beliefs & Behaviors (KABB) Survey throughout the state. Results of the survey will be used to assess FAS-related knowledge and attitudes among nine targeted audiences. Theses groups include:

  • The general public
  • Family physicians
  • Obstetricians/gynecologists
  • Pediatricians
  • Public health nurses
  • Corrections personnel
  • Educators
  • Substance Abuse Counselors
  • Social Workers

The latter eight professional groups are considered "front-line" providers who on a day-to-day basis are likely to encounter children and or adults affected by FAS and other alcohol abuse related issues.

The Department of Health & Social Services Maternal Child & Family Health Unit administered the original FAS KABB survey in 1993. The questions from that survey were used to guide the development of the current survey however; significant modifications have been made to reflect more current FAS information. The newer KABB also includes four non-medical, professional target audiences. The survey consists of twelve core questions that are asked of all survey participants with an additional ten to fifteen audience-specific questions for each of the nine groups.

The results of the survey will be used to guide FAS prevention, education & intervention efforts across the state. They will also provide a measure of the effectiveness of the 5-year, FAS Project in the development and support these efforts.

A final report will be presented through a variety of public forums and will be made available to all who request it.
