The Purchasing Unit for the Department of Health and Social Services manages a broad range of complex commodity procurement; non-professional services contracting, and logistical operations required for a large department. This unit is staffed by 6 State of Alaska, certified Procurement Specialists located in Anchorage and Juneau. Use this link for information on certification.
This unit issues formal bids and awards contracts for commodities and non-professional services that are managed under an Invitation to Bid process which requires adherence to strict State guidelines. Use this link to go to the State of Alaska, Purchasing Section
This unit is responsible for direct commodities purchases as well as non-professional services contracts in the multi-millions of dollars. Authority delegated specifically for these types of purchases from the Department of Administration to this department has no dollar limitation.
The Purchasing Unit manages the procurement of all construction projects under $200,000.00, per Department of Transportation delegated authority, throughout the department. This includes projects for the maintenance and operation of 42 department owned facilities and seventy-five leased offices statewide.
