Adolescent Health
About the Program
The Adolescent Health Program seeks to promote positive youth development and prevent or reduce negative health outcomes, with a focus on:
- Avoiding early initiation of sexual activity and teen pregnancy
- Promoting healthy relationships
- Eliminating unequal and unhealthy relationships
- Promoting overall adolescent health and wellbeing
- Encouraging family, school and community involvement in the lives of youth
The Adolescent Health Program serves as a resource to Alaskan communities and aims to offer the public the best possible services available to them. Here is some of what the program does:
- Collaborates with other State agencies
- Supports the efforts of local community service agencies
- Promotes partnerships between local community health and social service agencies
- Provides technical assistance and trainings on healthy relationships, teen pregnancy prevention, youth development, and more
- Publishes periodic fact sheets and reports on adolescent health
- Plans, manages, supports and evaluates programs in the community
- Involves youth in decisions and planning programs to address their needs
- Provides access to adolescent health resources and materials
