AK VRDS Data Summary
What is the Status of the AK VDRS?
- The AK VDRS is entering its second five-year activity period under a Cooperative Grant Agreement with CDC to maintain and improve the state-based violent death reporting system.
- The AK VDRS has drafted its second annual summary report (available September 2009) that will include two new sections — Child Fatalities (0-17 years of age) and Accidental Firearm Fatalities.
The AK VDRS is currently working to implement a new domestic violence/intimate partner violence module that will initiate data collection in January 2009.
- The AK VDRS staff have participated in the development of several articles and publications including an MMWR article detailing suicides across seven NVDRS states.
The AK VDRS staff have participated in and presented AK VDRS data at several local and national injury prevention conferences.
The AK VDRS in conjunction with the advisory group members and other data users are exploring the use of additional data fields to collect and analyze state specific data elements.
The AK VDRS staff are currently working with the Child Fatality Review Team (CFRT) to implement a pc based NVDRS software edition for CFRT members to use in the collection and analysis of CFRT data.
