Survey Information
Alaska Modified Behavioral Risk Factor Survey
Overview:
The lifestyle choices we make on a daily basis play a vital role in shaping our health status and lifespan. While heredity and environment play a part, the leading causes of death in Alaska (heart disease, cancer, unintentional injuries) are closely related to behaviors and lifestyle factors such as diet, exercise, tobacco and alcohol use, as well as preventive health practices. Changes in lifestyle could prevent diseases as well as premature deaths.
The Alaska Modified Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance Survey (BRFSS) was designed in collaboration with the Tobacco Prevention and Control program to provide an ongoing data collection system on preventive health practices and risk behaviors, in particular detailed information on tobacco use, knowledge and attitudes, which may contribute to chronic diseases within Alaskan Adults. This anonymous, telephone based, random digit dial survey provides representative data for Alaska. For examples of how data from this survey are used, please see Tobacco Publications.Methodology:
