Workforce Development

Over the next five years our focus will be to affect change in the following areas:

  1. Develop formal educational opportunities for behavioral health workers: Support the University of Alaska Behavioral Health training academy. Expand scholarships for behavioral health care providers to obtain certification. Expand cross disciplinary classes for certification and degrees.
  2. Support training for the new DHSS waiver to provide community-based care for children with an SED and a fetal alcohol spectrum disorder through UAA:

    • Initial training for new provider agencies in the model at the University of Alaska.
    • On-going mentoring for waiver providers.
    • On-line classes for new staff.
  3. Establish the capacity to train, monitor, and mentor providers in wraparound service planning and coordination. Develop in-state trainers and link this capacity to each regional team.
  4. Develop capacity to screen, assess and treat young children with behavioral health problems and their families. Establish a project coordinator, a learning collaboration and grants to train service providers.
